Ban Backed on Fracking in Scotland

Fracking faces a new challenge with Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse telling MSPs that the practice "…...cannot and will not take place in Scotland". With only the Conservatives opposed to a ban it would appear that an endorsement by Holyrood on their return following the October recess in inevitable.

Although strongly supported by environmental groups across the UK, strong objections have been raised by Ineos, operators of the Grangemouth petrochemical plant, whom hold the fracking exploration licences across 700 square miles of the country.

The proposed ban has followed the introduction of a suspension fracking and underground coal gasification in 2015, in which a number of expert reports highlighted the potential health, environmental and economic impacts of the techniques.
